Opened by Portland restaurateurs Aaron and Jessica Grimmer in 2012, The Picnic House has become one of the staples of downtown Portland’s flourishing culinary scene, welcoming guests to enjoy its New American cuisine, historic space, and heartfelt hospitality. Chef Drew Benyo’s menu features accessible fine dining that emphasizes the restaurant's relationships with local purveyors. The Picnic House offers a comprehensive New World/Old World wine selection, local microbrews on draught, and a seasonal craft cocktail menu.
The Grand Room of The Picnic House sits in the nearly century-old lobby of the original Heathman Hotel, and retains the original hand-tiled floor, fluted wood columns, and grand staircase. The Picnic House is located adjacent to sister concept Barlow Artisanal Bar (2014), a craft cocktail lounge with offerings inspired by the Golden Age of cinema and jazz, prepared with modern care and craft.
