A new approach to fast food is about to hit NW 23rd Ave. CHKCHK, the latest concept of restaurateurs Aaron & Jessica Grimmer (Picnic House, Barlow, High Noon), will open its doors in the old Subway space at 1305 NW 23rd Ave on February 5, 2016!
CHKCHK aims to reclaim the chicken sandwich from a fast food industry riddled with questionable sourcing and dominated by national chains who champion regressive social agendas. The team at CHKCHK believes that fast food concepts have the power to bring people together over delectable, affordable cuisine, while enhancing neighboring communities. CHKCHK will feature Chef Casey Gipson's responsibly-sourced, decadent, crispy chicken sandwich (or chickpea sandwich, for those of the veggie/vegan inclinations), with5% of gross sales going to the Q Center, a Portland non-profit that provides a safe space to support and celebrate LGBTQ diversity, equity, visibility, and community building.
In addition to the chicken and chickpea sandwiches, CHKCHK will offer southern poutine (sinfully delicious 'loaded fries'), mac & cheese, bottled cocktails, draft beer, and seasonal sides in a fast-casual setting.
